I'm so
grateful for all of the experiences I've had as a missionary here in
Oklahoma. The people here will always have a place in my heart. My
mission has taught me so much about love and obedience. I know the
memories I've had here in Duncan will last forever.<br />
<br />
This week has been a blur. It has flown by so fast. Where do I begin?<br /><br />
We
got a new investigator on Friday while me and Elder Norman were on
exchanges. He walked up to us while we were contacting a farmer, and
asked us to come over to his house after we were finished with our
conversation. So we did and taught him about the Book of Mormon and left
him with a copy. He is really interested. We are going to go back on
Tuesday to teach him more!<br />
<br />
We were very bold with Br~
on Saturday. He is frustrating himself by looking to prove the Book of
Mormon (Which he just finished a couple of weeks ago) by physical
evidence. We bore our testimonies of the Book of Mormon. We read <a href="https://www.lds.org/search?q=Alma+7%3a5-17&lang=eng&domains=scriptures" target="_blank">Alma 7:5-17</a>. The only way that we can receive testimony is from the holy
spirit, the spirit of truth. It was a good visit. The Book of Mormon
should be read by the mind but it should also be read by the heart.<br />
<br />
Sunday
was amazing, I'm going to miss the people in this ward a lot. We had a
great turn out for attendance, as a district we had 10 investigators and
8 less-actives come to sacrament meeting. Incredible! Both Elder Norman
and I gave talks in sacrament. It was an amazing service and all of the
talks were great. J~ came to church! She walked in right as the
invocation was finished and walked up to the podium. She enjoyed church and
hopefully will be coming again next week.<br />
<br />
After church
we had an amazing meal at the Z~'s. Oreo cooked us rib-eye steaks
with baked potatoes. They love the missionaries so much, I'm so grateful
for them. I hope he gets baptized soon. He has some stumbling blocks he
has to move first. Keep them in your prayers.<br />
<br />
Wednesday
morning I'll be driving up to Moore with Elder Sheffield for transfers.
At noon the departing missionaries will have lunch and then we will go
to the temple for a session. I am so excited! I'm not sure what we are
doing after that. I'm sure we will have interviews and then spend time
with president.<br />
<br />
I want to thank everyone for their love
and support while I've been out here. Your words and thoughts have
taught me so much! I have felt your prayers. Thank you for everything!<br />
<br />
I'm so excited to come home and visit with all of you!<br />
<br />
Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

We are finding a lot of new people to teach! <br /><br />We have started to teach a new part-member family! Their name has always been on the roster, but it was missing an address. Well a couple of weeks ago, it showed up! Since then we had been knocking their door every time we came through their area, but there was never any cars in the driveway and no one would answer. Well one day our appointment fell through so we decided to drive by and try them again. This time there was a truck in the drive way. So we anxiously knocked it and they invited us right in! We got to know them and learned more about the husband's religious background. He was raised catholic and has Hispanic roots. He is awesome and wants to learn more about the church. His wife has tried to explain the church to him, but she has been away for so long its been hard for her. He works in the oil field so he is gone a lot. He also shared with us that his job has been hard because he feels like he is one of the only guys who is married and has a family. Then on Sunday we talked to a couple of the young oil field members that have kids who work a similar shift of 6 days on and 3 off, and it turns out they know him from their crew at work. They are going to start fellow shipping with him at work and invite him to activities and church. That was a pretty cool miracle.<br /><br />This Sunday we had a very less active part member family come to church another whose name was also on the roster but had no address. We got to visit with him and his wife (non-members) for a bit after sacrament and got their new address. Which turns out to be on the same street as the Lewises! - one of the amazing families in the ward that lets us have investigators come to their home every Thursday night for activities and lessons. We told him about it and are going to invite their family for our next Thursday activity as soon as his work schedule permits. He works 27 days on and 10 off so it will be tough, but we will make it happen.<br /><br />
After church we got word of another part-member family that just showed up on the roster who moved into Marlow! Is this real life? We Got the new address from the Clerk, and last night we went up and knocked their door. The member answered and we had a really good conversation with Him on his porch and got to know him. He is a young mechanic in the Army at Fort Sill. He's been married for about 2 years and has two kids. He hasn't been to church in a long time and wants to come back. He asked us for all of the church services information and said he is going to try and make it this Sunday. We will be visiting with hopefully his whole family Sunday evening.<br /><br />Another eventful thing that happened at church was that the bishopric asked me to give a talk for my last Sunday in the field which is cool because this is the only ward I haven't spoken at yet. I'll be the concluding speaker so I'll prepare a 15 minute talk while I also prepare my homecoming talk for the following Sunday, it should be a busy week of studies. I'm thinking about just giving my homecoming talk for both because they are both on missionary work.<br /><br />Time's up, I love you all! See you soon!<br /><br />Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

had been working on. It was inspiration that we called help him because
he had been doing the job by himself and technically he Isn't suppose to
be working because of his health. We got there just in time to help him
dry wall the trickiest part of the ceiling. I wish I had gotten a
picture of how we got the dry wall up. Craziness! Thursday afternoon we had
some of our appointments cancel so we decided to swing by and help
T~ our investigator (who also should not be working because of his
health and injury from the military) at his motel maintenance job. We
did some weeding in the garden beds and painted one of the bathrooms he
repaired. He's still going through a really rough time with his family
and finances. After we finished painting we took a break and got to
visit with him for a bit. We found out that one of his goals is to
eventually quit smoking. We explained to him the program we share as
missionaries to help people overcome their addictions and his eyes lit
up with excitement. He wants us to walk him through the program as soon
as he gets a day off. He is so awesome.<br />
<br />
Saturday we helped
out a member family in our ward build the frame for their sons tree
house. SO MUCH FUN. We did pretty good for the resources we had. We used
the salvaged wood from the old garage we tore down (I think I emailed a
picture of it a few months back). A lot of the wood was warped but we
were able to clap it down and pull it all together.<br />
<br />
Sunday,
okay this one was crazy. So we have a part member family. Really the
whole story is really long and complicated, so I will spare you. They
were going to get a divorce a week after their son had his birthday
(last Saturday) But things escalated and we got a call during the 3rd
hour of church that she was getting kicked out of her house. Thankfully
because it was the 5th Sunday we had Priesthood, Relief Society, Young
Men, and Young Women altogether in the chapel. We notified the Elder's
Quorum President and he made an announcement after the meeting. It was
amazing 25+ members came with us to help move her out. It really helped
Sister J~ realize how much the ward loves and misses her. I know this
change will be for the best. She will be able to freely practice her
faith now and share it with her son.<br />
<br />
As for teaching we had a
solid lesson with Oreo, Br~, D~, and T~. D~ should
be coming to church this coming Sunday. Tonight we are having a family
home evening with Oreo and his wife after dinner. Hopefully it's
Venezuelan food again.<br />
<br />
Well I'm out of time! I love you all see you in 2. ;)<br />
<br />
Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

suppose every missionary experiences this at some point. I guess its
been happening for awhile but time doesn't want to slow down. A member
gave an interesting quote in their talk last Sunday on time and
productivity "Time fly's, good thing I'm the pilot." Maybe it's cliche but
I found it interesting. Are we pointing in the right direction what is
our destination? Are we who we want to be? I've learned so much from
this journey as a missionary. I'm grateful for the attributes I've
obtained that continue to develop everyday. Time shapes hills, forms
mountains, carves statues. Heavenly Father uses time to shape and mold
us but only by our trust and faith in Him does He transform us in that
process. Truth be told!<br />
<br />
This week was good! We taught D~ the
restoration on Tuesday which went really well. He has so many similar
beliefs. He is very much on key with the doctrine he believes. He is
such a meek and humble guy. He reminds me a lot of you Dad except the
Okie version. Haha I don't even think D~ knows how many farm animals
he has; it's so much fun to pull into the property next to his house and
watch his 6 goats and 20+ birds follow us. Haha they are hilarious.<br />
<br />
This
week we did a lot of digging through our former investigators, and kept
finding more and more teaching records. We have tried a lot of them
but we are hoping for more success with that this week. <br />
<br />
Like I
had mentioned last week our ward has not done very many activities or
ward get-togethers (we have not done any since I've been here). As a
district we have begun to organize monthly missionary activities where
members can invite the families they home/visit teach, and where members
can invite their non-members friends to learn more about the gospel and
fellowship. This last Saturday we had our first activity where we had a
movie night and showed The Testaments movie on the big screen in the
cultural hall. Our district teamed up and invited everyone we could. We
made pass along cards to give out as we went tracting or street
contacting. Well the Sunday before that Saturday we found out the county
fair (Stephen county's biggest event of the year) was going to be
happening the last 3 days of the week with Saturday being the biggest
day. We were a little discouraged but we had faith that we would still
have good attendance. We set up everything the day before and it looked
awesome! The night of the activity with about 5 minutes before the movie
started we only had about 12 people. Well no worries we didn't forget
about MST (Mormon Standard Time), about 15 minutes after the hour we had
35 - 45 people in attendance. Three of our investigators and tons of
less-actives from the other Elders area came. It was awesome! Bishop
told Elder Sheffield that he was surprised and said more people came
than he was expecting. We were so grateful that everything worked out.
Br~ came which was a shocker. We were really excited to see him
getting fellowship with a ton a members. He said he really enjoyed the
movie and is eager to read 3 Nephi. He is currently in chapter 42 of
Alma, he is getting close. <br />
<br />
Next week is looking good. Our
district is seeing a ton of miracles and growth with the people we are
teaching right now. The other Elders pulled in 9 new investigators last
week! So awesome! And they all basically fell into their lap. I'm
excited for them to see those people grow. The work is hastening.<br />
<br />
I love you all! God bless!<br />
<br />
Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

Lots of driving, finding, and teaching.<br /><br />Tuesday
we had a leadership meeting in Moore where we went over President
Kimball's talk "Jesus, the Perfect Leader." Its got to be one of my
favorite talks. I enjoyed going back over the talk and I'll probably go
over it again this week.<br /><br />On Thursday we had a temple trip with
the zone to the Temple in Yukon, OK. It's such a blessing to have a
temple in our mission. I had a powerful experience worshiping in the
temple and reading the scriptures in the celestial room. I love the
peace and direction the spirit gives. I know Heavenly Father is aware of
our needs and knows what will help us most.<br /><br />I had a powerful study on the well known verse Matt 7:7 last week during my personal studies.<br /><br />7 ¶Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.<br />
<br />I
read this while I was preparing a training on finding and I guess this
is an example of when a really simple scripture becomes deeper from
listening to the spirit. We pray for a lot of things and we receive
those things when it is expedient in the Lord that we should receive
them, but how often do we ask and forget to seek? We forget what we
asked for and float through the rest of the day unaware of the prepared
blessing right in front of our faces? <br /><br />Finding in missionary work
is a 3 step phase; ask, seek, knock. We have to have faith that God is
preparing everyone around us, they might all be at different points in
their progression but every one has equal potential. If we don't seek
and talk to everyone we meet we might pass someone the Lord has prepared
for us to find.<br /><br />It seems the last month or so the weeks have
alternated back and forth from mostly teaching to mostly finding. This
week was one of the mostly finding weeks. It was good though, we have
been able to help a lot of people that God has guided us to. We have
been able to find a lot of new people in Marlow to teach that we now
have setup to teach this coming week. Tomorrow is going to be awesome!
We have four super solid appointments lined up.<br /><br />This coming
Saturday we have organized a missionary activity where we are going to
be showing a church film (The Testaments) to give our investigators an
opportunity to learn more about the Book of Mormon. It will be good for
our less-actives and those we are teaching to fellowship with the active
members. This Ward really struggles with doing activities.<br /><br />We
had a pretty solid lesson with Oreo where we read Genesis 22, the
story of Abraham when he was commanded to sacrifice his son. We had a
really good discussion about sacrifice and blessings, and the importance
of obedience to God's commandments. I love the scriptures and how they
illustrate God's love. Everything that God gives us is out of his love
and concern for us; commandments, blessings trials, miracles,
weaknesses, and strengths. We are getting a better idea of what is
holding him back from being baptized. He is close he just needs to
connect a few of the spiritual dots and DO IT!<br /><br />Well, we are just about out of time at the library. I love you all! I'm excited to share this weeks miracles next time!<br /><br />Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

stretch. I can't wait to see the miracles that lay ahead. It's going to
be crazy. The zone leaders gave me the crazy plans for the transfer on
Wednesday night. We have a LTM (Leadership Training Meeting) in Moore, a
temple trip in Yukon, and an STM in Lawton. And all of this is
happening within the next two weeks. Craziness. I'm excited to have two
temple trips this transfer, it feels like forever since we went last. <br /><br />Training
is going well. Last night me and Elder Sheffield had a good talk about
seeing others as what they can become, especially when it comes to
talking to people at the door or on the street. He seems to get a little
down or discouraged from tracting and finding. We talked about how
every positive contact people have with us gets them closer to hearing
the gospel. That's the joy of talking to everyone. We don't always know
the point when that will happen so we have to have faith that God is
leading us to those who are searching.<br /><br />Okay where do I start,
A'ight we had a church tour with J~l and we were able to get Sister
Foreman to join us in giving the tour. It was such an amazing tour,
Sister Foreman was great; in fact, she did most of the tour. She
connected with her really well and was able to answer questions that
fellow mothers could answer. It was neat to see J~'s smile as we
stood in the chapel. She recognized the spirit in the chapel and told us
she would save her questions for after we exited the chapel. Haha she
is awesome. She is excited to come to church this coming Sunday. After
the tour and after we had walked her to the lobby, she left and we went
about turning off the a/c and what not when she came back inside and
thanked us for taking our time to teach her. She is so wonderful and
sincere.<br /><br />Last week's tracting and finding paid off. We got four
new investigators which is really good for this area. Me and Elder
Sheffield are delighting in the tiny victories the Lord helps us achieve
every week. This area has grown a lot over the last four months and
things are only looking better. <br /><br />For district meeting we all held
council together as a district and set some good goals as a district
and established some expectations. We are all going to be working on
being more diligent in finding and setting baptismal dates.<br /><br />Thank you for you support and love! Remember to read the scriptures today!<br /><br />Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

An old wedding chapel in Marlow's park</div>

to teach a full lesson with J~. Which was a mess at first, but it's
all pretty funny looking back. We arranged to meet at the library for
the discussion, because she felt a little self-conscious about it being
messy inside her house. I assumed that meeting at the library would work
out great because I had done it all of the time in Shawnee and Ponca
City, and it had been a great, peaceful atmosphere for teaching lessons.
Well we got to the library 10 minutes early and asked if we could use
one of the glass rooms. It turns out it's library policy that no
political, social, or religious group is allowed to hold discussions in
the library. Yeah... I don't feel like that's right but whatever. Me and
Elder Sheffield quickly counseled what we should do. We felt inspired
to have the discussion at the church since J~ hadn't been to the
building yet. We gave her a call, met her outside the library, and had
her follow us to the church. Okay so we are almost there and it
occurred to me that there wouldn't be a third male at the church and
President just so happened to be meeting the district at the church for
interviews right around when we would get finished with our discussion
with J~. Yeah, awkward situation. I said a little prayer in my heart
if this was alright, and I felt that this was all inspired. One of those
higher law moments. <br /><br />The discussion went great and we we're able
to help J~ better understand the plan of salvation and the
atonement. At the end of the discussion she asked if there was a way she
could get a copy of the plan of salvation lay out. Neither of us had
any picture copies of it on hand so later that week we came by her house
to drop off a copy of the illustrated layout I had drawn earlier in my
mission. Her teenage sons answered the door and J~ asked us to come
in. Haha really? It wasn't a mess at all. It was all very ironic. Inside
their house we were able to watch a Mormon Message with one of her twin
sons and invite him to browse the church's website. This coming week we
are going to do a full church tour with her and possibly her sons.<br /><br />We
weren't able to have dinner with our investigators D~ and C~,
because they had a last second show come up that he performed down in
Dallas. They are rescheduling for this week though.<br /><br />We have dinner with our Venezuelan part member family again this Thursday so that should be good.<br /><br />This
week we weren't able to do a lot of teaching so we really focused on
finding. We have 5 or 6 solid appointments this week for teaching new
investigators so it should be a great week!<br /><br />In other good news president decided that our area should keep the car! Yeah for work in Marlow!<br /><br />Last
night we got transfer calls, Elder Nelson is going home to Wyoming and
we are getting Elder Normon!! I'm super excited! I served in the Enid
zone with him while he was getting trained. I'm going to be District Leader for my last transfer. I'm hoping to do my best to help this
district before I leave.<br /><br />Thank you for you support! I love you!<br /><br />Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

Lots of good stuff, chronological or order of awesomeness? I'll just recite things backwards.<br /><br />Well
on Saturday Elder Sheffield and I were blessed to attend Corey's baptism of in Norman, OK. He was the investigator we worked with
for 3 months until he and his member wife had to move to Noble for work.
Well as soon as they moved we got in touch with the missionaries there
(Sister Boulter from Lone Peak and Sister Duerch). They have helped
Corey the rest of the way and on Saturday he was baptized! It was a
great baptismal service! You could sense Corey's anxiety and excitement.
It was cool. After the baptism the sisters, us, and some of the other
missionaries signed the back of a picture of the OKC temple and wrote
our thoughts and encouragement. They are working to be sealed in the
temple next July! Just listening to their excitement about going to the
temple filled me with joy. I am so excited for their family!<br /><br />On
Friday we arranged for our native american investigator C~ (who is
huge into native lore) and his two sons to have a pow wow for the boy
scouts in the ward. Friday evening we got to go to a members property
out in the country where the boy scouts were camping and got to watch 20
minutes of D~ and M~'s performance. It was pretty cool. They
loved the experience and got to meet some of the church members they go
to school with. The boys want to go to Wednesday night activities now.
Hopefully they can make it this coming week. <br /><br />On Wednesday we
picked up two new investigators, Dn~ and Cl, a young couple that
has only been married for 3 months. We met Dn~ from knocking doors.
He and his wife are both from a small town in Texas and were raised as
Baptists. He has actually been to Salt Lake temple square and BYU, Provo
campus for tours. He told us that our religion has always fascinated
him. He told us that this was the first time he had met missionaries. He
invited us to come back. So last Wednesday we arrived for our set
appointment and got to meet his wife. They are a super chill young
couple. He is working for Halliburton and making music with his buddies
on the side. I think he and I will get along. We first got to know them,
and then he told us that he wanted to ask us questions (from a piece of
paper) after the discussion. I was a little skeptical at first, not
knowing if they were really his questions or stump the Mormon questions
off the internet. Haha. Well, we opened with a prayer and we shared the
message of the Restoration with them. We focused on families and eternal
marriage. The whole time he was very open, respectful, and receptive.
It was a powerful lesson taught to their questions, knowing that
afterwards he'd go down the list. He said well you answered a ton of my
questions. Haha, he had a few about the priesthood and couple of other
common ones, but we were able to answer them simply. His other questions
will be answered next time when we share the Plan of Salvation. Pumped
for that. Before we even got out a Book of Mormon to give him, he asked
for one. Before our stomachs even growled, he offered to feed us next
Friday. They are awesome!<br /><br />Monday, we taught Oreo and his wife
after they fed us an amazing Venezuelan dinner. We taught him the
Restoration with the Jenga tower and he basically taught it to us, haha.
It was a lot of fun watching him and his wife work together.They are so
funny. He is a great guy, and wants to know the truth for himself.
There are a few members who are going to arrange a dinner or an activity
in their home to invite them to which would be awesome! <br /><br />For P-day we are going to Lawton to spend time with a few of the missionaries who are departing August 5th. It should be fun! <br /><br />I love you all! thank you for you love and support.<br /><br />Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

Each week it gets hotter here. Cold water in a bottle is a good friend.<br />
<br />
Me
and Elder Sheffield had a pretty amazing experience on Saturday. We
parked the car in Marlow and offered a prayer that Heavenly Father would
guide us to an area and street where we would find people the Lord had
prepared to receive the restored gospel. After the prayer we looked at
our small map of Marlow. I had an idea where we should go, but before I
shared it I confirmed with Elder Sheffield where he felt the spirit
should have us go. He pointed to the exact area I was thinking of and
then I asked him what street we should go to, and he said the exact same
street that was in my mind. It was crazy. We drove there and talked to
three people and all of them were very receptive and productive visits.
Two of them, we are going to come back and see this Tuesday to teach. We
are excited to see the fruit of our faith from that.<br />
<br />
Sunday
night we made a last second decision to try our eternal investigator.
Logically there might have been a few better places to try, but
something told me we should swing by. When we knocked the door our new
investigator T~ answered and invited us in. It has been hard to meet
with him because of his work schedule and how far away he lives. We had
just happened to catch him over at the Busby's visiting family. Brother Busby was
busy but asked us to visit with T~. We shared the doctrine of
Christ and focused on the power of the Holy Ghost in our conversion. The
spirit was strong and you could sense the hunger that T~ had to
learn more. He is such a great example of faith and long-suffering. He
has been through a lot these last two weeks, and it has been rough on him. We
left him with a promise that if he would read the Book of Mormon and
pray, his needs would be met. Keep him in your prayers.<br />
<br />
Tomorrow
we are having dinner at Oreo's, and we are going to be eating
Venezuelan food. At church he explained to me that he has been
investigating for about a year, but he hadn't been to church until three
weeks ago when we first met him. His interest is growing every week.
Sunday he and his wife stayed for all three hours of church! It was awesome.
<br />
<br />
We have found a lot of potential investigators this week, so
next week will hopefully be filled with teaching new people. Keep
praying for us!<br />
<br />
I love you all. You're in my prayers.<br />
<br />
Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

<br />
H~
(Oreo is his nick name) was at church again with his wife! I think I
told you about them last week. They are from Venezuela and just recently
moved into the neighborhood by us. His wife is a member and they have
only been married for a couple of years. He is Christian and is always
looking for ways to grow his faith. It was really cool to watch him
participate in the Gospel Principles class we teach at church. We taught
the chapter Faith in Jesus Christ. It was one of the greatest classes
we have ever had. Everybody was baring testimony and sharing their
experiences with their faith. Oreo really enjoyed the class and added a
lot of thought to the class. At the end of the class we got to talk to
him and his wife a little bit more. He told us that his wife usually
feed the missionaries from time to time. He told us she cooks really
good Venezuelan food. We are really excited. We looked at our dinner
calendar and they had signed up for next Monday! We will get to teach
him in his home and eat really good food!<br />
<br />
We got a new
ward mission leader a couple of weeks ago, Brother Tezen from Guatemala!
He is awesome! He is very organized and has a lot of good ideas to help
the ward council. Last week we got to take him over to teach Br~.
Br~ loves to talk and had a lot to share about his studies. It seems
he gets tied up with the logic and analyzing it. We read about being
focused on prayer and listening to the spirit through the Holy Ghost. We
shared with him a few scripture out of Alma 32 and explained that the
word must be planted in out heart and we have to nourish it first if we
are to know if it is good and of God. Brother Tezen invited him to
church and we bore testimony that it would help him get his answer. By
the end he told us he would come one of these Sundays. It will be a big
step for him.<br />
<br />
This coming weekend Duncan is having a
city wide yard sale for 3 straight days. It's suppose to be crazy! It
will be good for proselyting and getting to talk with people on the
streets!<br />
<br />
Oh and I finished the Book of Mormon today! I'm excited to start again!<br />
<br />
Elder
Sheffield is my favorite! He is hilarious! It was funny the 12 o'clock
tornado siren went off and Elder Sheffield freaked out. We all went with
it and told him we had to get to a cellar. Haha we had him going a
couple of minutes.<br />
<br />
Every week is an adventure in the mission field! I love you all! Thank you for your letters and love!<br />
<br />
Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

We were able to teach a lot of our investigators, despite the crazy holiday.<br /><br />On
Sunday we had a visitor/new move-in at church. They are from Venezuela,
but moved here from Texas. The wife is a member but the Husband is not.
We taught the Restoration in Gospel Principles class which worked out
perfect. He really enjoyed church and they will be coming back. We are
going to help them move in as soon as they have everything settled with
their new house. We are really excited to teach him!<br /><br />On Sunday
night we had some of our plans fall through, so we decided to try out
our investigator family the Busby's. We pulled up and they were on their
porch. B~ is recovering from back surgery and is doing really well. We
got invited inside and got to talk about their scripture reading (the
struggle for a lot of our investigators). Well while we were there,
T~ came over! It was awesome! We have been unable to start teaching
him because of his schedule, and him living so far away from town. We
got to teach him at the perfect time when he needed our message the
most. We taught him about the Book of Mormon and he asked us if he could
read a copy. He had a lot of cool questions. We taught him about the
holy ghost and prayer and how we can receive answers from God. We are
going to teach him again in a week or so. We also might be helping him
build his house! I'm excited!<br /><br />We had fun in Marlow with some
members for the 4th of July. We had lunch at Sister Dupont's house
(recent convert). A couple of the other elder's investigators were there
as well. It was pretty cool, I got to talk to Sister Dupont's father
(who is in his 90s). He was an amazing musician in his early years, and
he has worked with a lot of famous musicians (Johnny Cash, Elvis
Presley, and John Carol). He still plays guitar and showed me some of
his tricks. SO COOL! For dinner we ate at the bishop's with some of the
members, and watched the Marlow fireworks from their house in the
country. I love the members of this ward, they are amazing.<br /><br />I hope you are all having a wonderful summer! I love you, God bless!<br /><br />Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

Planner cover for Elder Sheffield</div>

He is awesome and I am so grateful to be his trainer. He has a strong testimony and a great knowledge of the gospel. The last 5 days have been so much fun and rewarding, lots of finding and lots of teaching.<br /><br />We had a really cool finding miracle this week. It was about 8:30 and we were on the west side of town so we decided that we would do some tracting. With only a little amount of time we offered a prayer and asked Heavenly Father to guide us to someone who was ready and prepared to receive the gospel. After the prayer we grabbed a copy of the Book of Mormon and carried it with us (something our mission is doing to flood the earth with the Book of Mormon). We felt prompted to knock on a door a couple houses down. The lady who answered looked surprised and happy to see us. She told us that she loves the Mormon Church and was a close friend with a bishop growing up in El Paso. She told us her story of how she was struggling with finding answers to her spiritual questions and the bishop gave her a lot of direction. He gave her a Book of Mormon and since then she has read it 3 times and loves it. She asked us about the temple and if there was one in Oklahoma. She also asked us how we prepare to enter the temple. It was so cool, you could see the light in her face as she asked about it. She told us she wants to go there some day! It gets crazier. She told us the story of how her son survived being born prematurely and that is was only because of her faith in God that he survived. I shared one of my favorite scriptures with her: Alma 37:6-7, and she started to quote it as I read it. We are going back and we are going to teach her. We are so excited! I love finding miracles!!!<br /><br />For p-day we are going to Lawton for a zone hike in the Wichita Mountains. I'm really excited I'll be sure to send pictures next week.<br /><br />I love you all! Have a wonderful week!<br /><br />Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

Goodbye Elder Mierau!</div>
Mrs. Ohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14159440829600935461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-230567985547924984.post-86451344251152657482015-06-23T16:11:00.003-07:002015-06-23T16:13:48.429-07:00Happy Fathers Day (Week 92)Thank you Dad for sending me the pioneer stories about John Watkins. I
love reading the stories of our ancestors and learning my roots. If it
wasn't for my fore fathers I wouldn't be where I am today. Looking at
history we can see the Lord's hand in bringing to pass His purposes.
While we sang "O My Father" in sacrament meeting I started to ponder the
influence and the example my father has had on me both my Heavenly
Father and my earthly father. I know that if it wasn't for the love of
my father I wouldn't be who I am today. I love you Dad!<br />
<br />
We have
had a crazy week. Everything is a blur. The clock is accelerating. We
have found a lot of new investigators and we are seeing a lot of
miracles and blessings coming from the Lord. We have begun to teach
J~ (our finding miracle from 2 weeks ago). She is awesome.<br />
<br />
We had trainers' meeting on Wednesday which was very inspired. I am so excited to train but I am also nervous. It will be good.<br />
<br />
We
have found some amazing people up in Marlow this past week. Yesterday
we taught E~ the Doctrine of Christ. It was such a powerful lesson
even though it was on the porch. It was such a perfect lesson because we
truly discerned her needs and taught towards them. She has been out of
church for 7 years and can see the difference church attendance has made
on her life and she wants it back. We taught her about the sacrament
and the blessings of church and the spirit brings to the home. At the
end of the lesson before we left she sincerely thanked us for the visit
and told us that she felt touched. We explained to her that it was the
spirit the she felt. We are going to set up a church tour with her next
week. Super pumped!<br />
<br />
Speaking of church tours, we had one last
week with Br~! We had brother Lim there and it went great! We had a
funny moment though. We came a little early to get everything ready,
made sure the AC was on, and that everything was tidy. Well apparently
we totally missed this huge wolf spider that got on the wall. Haha we
were doing the tour and turned the corner and Br~ pointed it out. We
all just stood there awkwardly. I quickly grabbed an empty vase and a
paper plate from the kitchen, caught it, tossed it outside, and on we
went with the tour. Haha, we had a good laugh. Hopefully Br~ will be
able to come to church one of these coming Sundays when he isn't so
busy. Pray for him.<br />
<br />
Well I'm out of time. I love you all! Happy Fathers day! <br />
<br />
Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

planning when the other elders knocked on the door which reminded me of
what was happening that night. I had totally forgotten that it was the
night that the assistants made trainer calls. The other elders were
pretty set that I was going to be training so they came over to wait for
the call from the APs. The phone some how got put on silent, we had a
missed call from the APs and 1 new voice mail. I anxiously put the phone
on speaker and we listened to the voice mail. AP Nibley was simply
relaying information about Elder Mierau's departing temple trip and
asked us to call him back. My heart sank a little but I know it was
probably Elder Nibley giving me a hard time. I patiently waited while AP
Nibley and Elder Meirau talked about the trip and then about our area,
then as soon as I thought the conversation was over I hear: "Oh and is
Elder Watkins still there?" Everyone fell silent. "...yes" the next
response: "President has asked that you would train this next transfer."
We all went crazy! Haha so much fun. I'm so excited to train! I've been
wanting to train my whole mission! I am excited for the new experiences
that lay ahead. I will be training for last 2 transfers of my mission.<br /><br />All
of the missionaries in our district are getting ready to go home. All
of us leave one transfer after the other. We have all decided to hide
how long we have been out from the new missionary so we don't make him
homesick. That way none of us will get "trunky". It should be a fun
challenge.<br /><br />We have good/bad news about C~. He got a job, but
it's clear up in Tulsa so we are unable to teach him for the time being.
We have been helping him find a closer job by asking around. Keep them
in your prayers. It was cool though because yesterday we heard from the
Relief Society president in ward council that when B~ and her husband C~ both
came to church the previous week B~ stood up and bore her testimony
in Relief Society. She shared in her testimony that while C~ and her
were in gospel principles class, he leaned over and whispered in her
ear, "this is home". It's such a joy to see investigators feel God's
love as they come to church and feel the spirit.<br /><br />Yesterday we got
permission with Cr's mom to set a baptism date with him. We are
excited that we are able to help him progress now!<br /><br />This week we
are going to be giving Br~ a church tour. It's going to be great. It
seems that every time we teach him, his heart grows more as well as
his interest to learn more.<br /><br />Our finding has been going really
well as of late. We are finding a lot of new investigators. We have also
been running into a lot of former investigators who want to start
investigating again.<br /><br />Well I'm running out of time! I'll be sure to send you the audio files of last p-day. Lots of fun.<br /><br />I love you all, I hope you have a good week!<br /><br />Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

The flood gates of Lake Waurika (after all the rain we got this spring)Mrs. Ohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14159440829600935461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-230567985547924984.post-29218214267846234312015-06-08T17:47:00.000-07:002015-06-08T17:47:47.329-07:0019th Street (Week 90)Summer is here, and the temperature is rising.<br /><br />We have been
doing more work in Marlow with our car which has been a blessing. Last
week we found a less active family who have a 12 and a 13 year old who
haven't been baptized. The parents have really strong testimonies but
struggle with coming to church. The father served 6 years in Iraq and
suffers with really bad PTSD so he struggles with crowds. During our
visit they explained to us that they want their children to make the
decision on their own to be baptized. The mother told us that lately her
daughter (12) has been asking about baptism and wants to be baptized.
By the end of the conversation the Dad confessed there were Sundays
that they could make it to church. We didn't say to much during the
visit but whatever was said the spirit spoke and was present to touch
their hearts. We are teaching their family this week. We are excited to
start working with them!<br /><br />We set a baptism date with C~ this
week! It's the wonderful date of July 4th. We are excited. A bitter
sweet thing happened in their family. C~ lost his job but the cool
thing about it was that now he is able to come to church and came
yesterday! He was talking about it with us and he started pointing out
all of the positive things about losing his job. He gets to catch up
with his family, he can come to church, and he can be here to help his
sister after she has her baby <br />(any day now). He knows that God has a plan for everything.<br /><br />We
have been doing quite a bit of finding this week. For the first half of
the week it seemed as though no one in Duncan was receptive, but on
Friday everyone and their cat wanted to listen to us. We knocked almost
all of 19th street and everyone at least listened to us and accepted our
offer to say a prayer with them. With 10 minutes before 9:00 pm we had
to head back home on our bikes before we could finish the street. As we
were biking away the spirit told me that tomorrow was when we should to
knock the rest of the doors on the street. Huh strange prompting. Well
the next day around 7:00 pm we came back and knocked on the rest of the
houses, and the one house that appeared to be vacant was the one that
opened. When the homeowner answered the door she had this big grin on
her face. We introduced ourselves, afterwards I felt to ask if she had
met with missionaries before. She said yes! In fact, she had studied
with them for along time and had read a lot of the Book of Mormon. She
has African-American children and told us she stopped when she found
information on blacks and the priesthood and it gave her doubts. We had a
HUGE conversation with her on the porch and helped answer her questions
about it. We explained the purpose for the priesthood and explained to
her that God gives all of his children callings. We pointed out how in
the old testament only the Levites held the priesthood. We quickly
resolved her concern on the that topic and she began to ask us questions
pertaining to the plan of salvation. We basically covered every part of
the plan of salvation lesson from our conversation and her questions.
She explained to us the trials that she was going through and that our
visit was an answer to her questions. One of the huge questions she had
been struggling with was why does God allow his innocent children to
suffer here on earth. The spirit prompted me to share the story of my
brother Tyler who has cerebral palsy. Turns our her youngest son has a
lighter form of cerebral palsy. The connection we made with her was
really cool. We gave her a plan of salvation pamphlet with our number on
it. Right after she pointed to the Book of Mormon in my hand and asked
if she could have a copy because she couldn't find hers. I gave her a
copy and asked if we could come back for a visit. she told us that she
would call us when her life settled down a little. We are still going to
swing by next week. :)<br /><br />Today for p-day we are going with a
member from Waurika to Comanche's Music (instrument store). Brother
Chesley plays a lot of blue grass instruments and is going to teach us a
few tricks. He's really really good on the Dobro which is an instrument
I've been waiting and dying to learn. Next week I'll send a recording
of our music. Come Come ye Saints.<br /><br />I love you all! Have a wonderful week.<br /><br />Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

with a lot of our investigators and we are starting seeing a lot of
growth and progression. We also had a former investigator (Has to wait
until he is off parole) come to stake conference.<br />
<br />
We Got to teach
Bd~ and C~ this week. They are on fire! Bd~ has been working on
getting C~'s sister-in-law interested in taking the discussions and
coming to church. Until this last week she hasn't been really
interested. She is in a very difficult situation right now. She is pregnant
and is living with Bd~ and C~ because her boyfriend is abusive and
she is trying to break up the relationship. She has a lot of questions
and is beginning to search for answers. She is really receptive and
wanting to find the truth. Before we could get to the end of the lesson
she asked us if she could have a Book of Mormon. We had run completely
out of Book of Mormons that day and we were running late for stake
conference in Lawton so we were unable to give her one (the most
frustrating thing ever). We told her we would come by and give her one
the next day. Well later that night we got home earlier then expected
and I had this prompting that we should give it to her tonight. We pulled
up to the house and she was sitting on the front porch sulking. It was
perfect timing, she seemed so sad and lost when we pulled up. We gave
her the Book of Mormon and had a really spiritual conversation with her
that lifted her spirits. We testified of the Book of Mormons power to heal and direct
our lives and left her with inspired promises if she would read and
pray. We could feel the spirit so strong, it just goes to show that God
sends us to the right place at the right time.<br />
<br />
We had a good
discussion with Brother B~ (investigator who has met with missionaries
for over a year). We had a discussion about sacrifice and its blessings.
It was amazing because the spirit resolved his struggles and motivated
him to do better. He is more committed now to reading the Book of
Mormon. Hopefully life will slow down a little bit for their family so
they can make it to church on Sunday. Keep them in your prayers.<br />
<br />
Stake
conference was great! We were honored to hear Elder Frost from the Quorum of the Seventy
speak. A lot of the talks were focused on keeping the Sabbath Day holy and
making sacrament meeting more spiritual. President Walkenhorst gave an
excellent talk on hastening the work of salvation in Oklahoma and how we can
become better member missionaries. At the conference I saw a couple of
people that looked really familiar, they were some of my classmates from Lone Peak HS. It was super weird. They are part of a sales group down in Wichita Falls, Texas. Small world.<br />
<br />
Well
the sun is suppose to be shining all week long. It's time to melt haha. It shouldn't be to bad.<br />
<br />
Thank you for the emails I love you all have a
wonderful week!<br />
<br />
Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

Its rained almost everyday and we
have received four severe alerts and two extreme alerts for flash
flooding and tornado's. Craziness! We only needed to get in the shelter
once and the tornado rotation dissipated just south of Duncan so we were
safe. Duncan is no longer in a drought so that's good. We have seen a
couple of signs saying please stop praying for rain.<br /><br />They almost
had to reschedule zone p-day because highway 7 was covered in a foot of
water from Beaver Creek overflowing. We took a picture of it from off of
the front page of Lawton's newspaper. I'll send it to you.<br /><br />Our
whole mission is focusing on using the Book of Mormon to its fullest.
The Lord is flooding the earth more than one way. It was funny that our
elders quorum lesson this week was reading Ezra Taft Bensen's talk
entitled: Flood the Earth with the Book of Mormon. A very good talk BTW.<br /><br />We
taught C~ and Bd~ (Recent Convert) twice last week. The first
visit we went over the plan of salvation and answered a lot of their
questions about the spirit world. At our second visit they still had
more questions so we read Alma chapter 40. They loved the chapter, it
was cool how they would ask a question and the the next few verses would
answer their question. It's amazing the answers that Book of Mormon
contains. We are blessed with so much knowledge. That was a cool visit
because Bd~'s friend K~ was over who was also sitting in on the
lessons when Bd~ was first investigating. She also had a ton of
questions that were similar to Bd~'s about the plan of salvation.
That's one of the most important things preach my gospel talks about is
teaching people not lessons. We have to adjust the messages we share to
what the person or family needs. Listening to the spirit is key for
teaching effectively. <br /><br />We went over the 17 points of the true
church with B~. It was a good discussion, we went through the
scriptures and talked about the organization of Jesus Christ's church
and taught him the restoration. He is awesome. He is so honest and
sincere about finding the truth. He loves the messages we leave with
him. His desire to read and study grows every time. Keep his family in
your prayers.<br /><br />Oh after we had our specialized training meeting in
Lawton with the zone leaders. They informed us that we were getting a
car. So our area has a car now, which means we can work with the members
in Marlow, Empire City, and Central more. We were excited to get that
news. :)<br /><br />Sorry I have to wrap up. I love you all. Have a wonderful week!<br /><br />Sincerely, Elder WatkinsMrs. Ohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14159440829600935461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-230567985547924984.post-64248041380529094392015-05-18T17:47:00.001-07:002015-05-18T17:47:38.975-07:00Storm Chasers (Week 87)This week has been great! Me and Elder Mierau are basically brothers,
both of us are very similar. He is from California, orange county. I
can tell this is going to be a great transfer full of spiritual
experiences and fun times.<br />
<br />
We had a very spiritual
weekend. First, we went to the Stake President's future daughter in
law's baptism in the afternoon and then afterwards we were very
privileged and blessed to attend the Stephen's baptism in Ponca City. It
was a long drive (3 hours) but me and Elder Mierau were able to talk
and get to know each other. The baptism went great. There were four kids
and three missionaries dressed in white. Haha the kids all picked
different missionaries to baptized them, they are so funny. After I
brought Xander (The youngest) out from under the water he jumped in the
air with his hands held high splashing water all over the font! He was
so happy to be baptized. It was amazing to see their whole family
together at the service. You could see a difference in their eyes. The
first step to an eternal family.<br />
<br />
No we didn't chase a
storm, but it chased us! After the Stephen's baptism we decided that we
would drive home so we could make it to church in the morning. President
called us and advised us to be safe and keep in contact with our
weather contacts because there were some big storms moving NE across
Oklahoma. We decided to drive south through Stillwater to avoid the city
and the major roads because that is where the storm was hitting and we
would have to drive through Moore (Which is famous for getting hit with
big storms and tornadoes). As we drove south towards Stillwater the
weather began to get worse. With our wipers on full and our brights on
it was really hard to see the road. We drove slow and offered a silent
prayer to know which direction to take. We both had a feeling to get on
the 35 and go through the city. We were both a little hesitant to the
prompting. Then 5 minutes later we got a text from our Stake President
to take the 35 and that the storm was beginning to pass the city. We got
on the 64 and hopped onto the 35. We didn't get hit with a drop of rain
the whole way into the city and we got to watch a sweet electric storm
over Stillwater to the east. We learned two things follow the promptings
of the spirit and follow the guidance of your priesthood leaders. Your
faith will increase, you will be protected, and you might get to watch a
beautiful light show. <br />
<br />
We taught B~ again! He is
awesome! We went over some of the 17 points of the true church with him
and we taught him about the sacrament. He is planning on coming to
church this week! Keep him in your prayers.<br />
<br />
Thank you for all of your letters and emails! I'm glad things are going well for "yall"! You are in my prayers!<br />
<br />
Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

several people that just within the past few days Oklahoma and Kansas
had over 58 tornadoes touch down. CRAZINESS! No worries Duncan wasn't
hit with any of them, but one of them got really close to us. It
actually went through the south elders area in Waurika but only
destroyed a few trees and an old barn. I guess the tornadoes weren't
really the intense part. The big problem for our area was flooding. We
were in a flash flood warning for three days in a row (good thing our
apartment is on the second floor). My weather radio was going off every
five minutes. We were driving during one of the really big storms and
the water in the street was 6-12 inches high (I have some videos I'll
try to send). The storms were a huge answer to prayers because of the
drought Duncan is in.<br />
<br />
Last Tuesday we had Mission conference
where we got to hear training from Elder and Sister Corbrige. He gave
the missionary talk "The 4th Missionary". All of you who are preparing
to serve a mission or are on a mission it's a must read. His training
was called "The Most Important Thing" (The Atonement). He really focused
on teaching to the understanding of those we teach: the What, Why, and
How of the gospel. It was a very inspired training.<br />
<br />
This week we
had a really good lesson with B~ (recent convert) and her non-member
husband C~. We taught them the restoration with the Jenga blocks, it
was a lot of fun because their toddlers wanted to help, haha you can
imagine how that went. Thankfully we were able to distract them until
the great apostasy haha. C~ really enjoyed the message and is really
receptive, we are hoping to see him at church in a couple of weeks when
his work schedule lines up. He enjoys church he has been two times
already. It was really cool to watch B~ teach a lot of the lesson
from her observations. It's amazing how strong of a testimony she has
developed.<br />
<br />
Mother's day was great! I love you Mom! It's a
blessing that we get to skype, I enjoyed seeing "yall". I just realized
earlier that was the last call I will make to you guys before I come
home... that's weird.<br />
<br />
My new companion is Elder Mierau who was
just serving with the other Elder Watkins (not related) in our mission. I
will be serving with him for one transfer and then he will be finished
with his mission. Then I will only have two transfers left which leaves
me with a chance to train a new missionary! :D Who knows it might
happen!<br />
<br />
Duncan is doing well! Please keep our stake presidents wife in
your prayers she was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer :(. As with
all things faith brings miracles, everything will work out!<br />
<br />
I love you all! Have a wonderful week!<br />
<br />
Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

Elder Hoopes goes home next week so we are getting things ready but working hard. Ain't no one getting trunky serving with me. :) All joking aside he is doing really well!<br />
<br />
This past week we have been doing service for Mrs. B~'s Brother T~ on a house that he is painting/remodeling. Our first impressions of T~ was that he was a pretty rough guy always in a<br />
hurry. Mr. B~ was telling us about the project and we asked if we could help. He asked T~ and he said sure. We went with Mr. B~ the first time out into the far country in Velma. The next time we went to help, T~ picked us up. While we were in the car he started to ask us questions about what we did as missionaries and what we believed. His interest grew and we had a really good conversation. About the time we were pulling in he asked if he could study with us sometime. Why of course! On the third day we helped him he picked us up and took us to Taco Bell for breakfast (good stuff), and offered to buy us something that would help us with our missionary work... he offered to buy us new bikes. He's a very nice guy, we politely told him that we weren't serving him for any reward. He was persistent, we told him the gift we would enjoy most is if we could share the message that we love with him. He said: "okay, but also I'd like to take you guys to the rodeo with my family this weekend if that's okay." We asked president for permission and got to go to the rodeo with him! I'll send pictures! We are hoping to teach him sometime this week.<br />
<br />
We had another great lesson with Br~ this week, he has already read to 2 Nephi! We taught him the plan of salvation and he really enjoyed it. It made complete sense to him. He is still on his spiritual search for the unity of faith. He says some of the most profound prayers I've heard on my mission. We are just helping to ask those specific questions so he can get those specific answers the Lord has prepared for him. He is going out of town next week for a political meeting so we won't see him for a while, but it will give him more time to study and pray. We are hoping he can come to church soon.<br />
<br />
We are finding new investigators and things are starting to pick up here in Duncan. Keep us in your prayers. Love you all!<br />
<br />
Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

My heart sank, but I realized I was fasting so I dedicated my fast to Carri.<br /><br />Later on Wednesday I got a phone call with Elder Matthew on the other line, "Hey Elder Watkins Carri wants to ask you something..." Then Carri, "Elder Watkins I want to invite you to my baptism this Saturday, can you come?" You have no idea how happy I was at that moment, off the walls, off the charts, my response: "Of course I would love to!"<br />
<br />Everything worked out perfect because Elder Quinney had a baptism the next day in Shawnee. So we got it approved with president to go on exchanges and go to Carri's baptism in Ponca City on Saturday and then go to the Shawnee baptism on Sunday. President Walkenhorst is awesome!<br /><br />It was a 3 hour drive from Duncan to Ponca City. We got there and the service was great. There were so many people there we had to have the service in the chapel. Sister Weatherly (One of Carri's close member friends) gave a talk on baptism, and the relief society president gave the talk of the gift of the holy ghost. When I got into the water for the baptism, you can probably guess, the water was freezing... Nope it was scolding hot. At first I just walked right on in like it was no big deal, but then my eyes widened a bit. Yeah, it was hot. Elder Matthews turned on some cold water to cool it down. We had a lot of extra water in the font, but it was still pretty warm haha. Carri was baptized and everything was great. You could see her countenance change as she was filled with a new desire to follow Christ and endure to the end. I'm so excited for her to begin this new life fresh and clean.<br /><br />The baptism in Shawnee was also great! we had to use the chapel there at well. I got to spend the night at Elder Corbin's apartment (one of my best friend from home), so it was fun to visit with him. This is his last transfer so he goes home May 13th.<br /><br />As we were traveling back to Duncan from Shawnee I realized how close Davis was in our trip and I kept thinking about the Fultz family (recent converts from last year). I called president and asked him if I could have permission to visit with Jennie Fultz on our way back to Duncan. The Fultz family have been going through some complicated and difficult trials. President gave me permission and I was able to visit with Jennie and the boys. I love their family and miss them so much. Me and Elder Quinney left Jennie with the commitment to prayerfully study <a href="https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/8?lang=eng" target="_blank">1 Nephi chapter 8</a> and look for answers. The whole trip was a huge blessing and I know that God has his hand in all of it.<br /><br />We had a really good lesson with Brett (really smart Bible-Constitution guy) this week. We answered a lot of his questions and talked a lot about the organization of Jesus Christ's original church. We taught him the restoration with the Jenga Blocks and he and his kids really enjoyed it. He is awesome and is studying a ton!<br /><br />Well I'm out of time! I love you all! Have a wonderful week!<br /><br />Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

project down in Waurika for a member and then we had zone p-day in
Lawton and then a STM (Specialized Training Meeting) at the stake
center. So we are emailing today instead. Yesterday for p-day we hiked
Elk Mountain as a zone. Even though they were smaller mountains, we had
tons of fun. I'll send some pictures.<br />
<br />
This week has been really
good. We had two really good lessons with the B~ family, one with the
Bishop and the other with Sister Mikesell. Lately we have been really
focusing on the sacrament and the importance of church attendance.
Sister B~ can be nervous around groups of people she doesn't know so
we are helping her build friendships with some of the sisters in the
ward. They were planning on coming to church last Sunday and they were
so close, but everything piled up on them and they couldn't come. They
want to come to church so bad though. they are one of the busiest
families I have met. Keep them in your prayers.<br />
<br />
We got a new
investigator this week. Br~ is the father of a small family that he
and his wife home school. He is very spiritual and loves the
constitution of our country. I have met a lot of people who<br />
know the
Bible like the back of their hand, and he is definitely one of them. He
loves the church and knows a lot of members from living in St. George.
He's also close friends with an active member family that home schools
their children as well. During our first visit he did most of the
talking but we taught him a lot of restored truths. He is really
interested in learning more about our faith (has already read half of
the Book of Mormon). He is sincere and honest in wanting to visit with
us in finding the truth, which is making us super excited to teach him
again. He is super super smart. So we will have to listen very carefully
to the spirit so we teach simply and powerfully, and study hard so we
can answer some of his deep questions. We are excited to teach him again
this week.<br />
<br />
Sorry for the short email we are running out of time. I love you all! Have a wonderful week!<br />
<br />
Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

We had some great lessons with investigators, visited tons of less-active members, and we stumbled into tons of rattlesnakes... at the Waurika's Rattlesnake Festival. We were at a members home for dinner and we got to walk through Waurika's lil' downtown and see a lot of rattlesnakes. I'm not usually big on snakes but it was pretty cool. I'll send some pictures.<br /><br />Me and Elder Hoopes got to go to a baptism in Mustang for M~, the father of a part-member family I taught about 7 months ago with Elder Staheli. It was amazing to witness his baptism and see the great faith that he has developed over the past several months when I was in Ponca City. Their family has grown so much. It was amazing to see how the gospel strengthened their family through the trial of their young son's suicide. The Mustang ward has been amazing with their love and fellowship for their family. There were so many people at the baptism we had to have part of the service in the chapel. Next week M~ will be receiving the Aaronic Priesthood so he can eventually baptize his daughter when she is ready. Man I just got goosebumps, so awesome!<br /><br />Yesterday we had a pretty cool miracle. Earlier in the week (Tuesday) we got pulled over and asked if we were Mormon. We respond with a "yes", and joy filled his face. "I'm a member from OKC and I've been looking for the church, what's its address?" We started talking to him and he told us his story. He joined the church * years ago but after moving to Duncan a year later he quickly went inactive and felt guilty for living with his girlfriend, and 7 years later on a random street he ran into us. Well we set up a time to meet with him and we were on our way.<br />
<br />
Well Thursday rolls around and we show up for our appointment but no one was home, We heard music from the garage and walked around the house. It was his now married wife working in the garage. We struck up a good conversation with her and we told her we would try to come back later when he was home, well are plans got crazy that night and so we couldn't see them.<br /><br />
So, yesterday night we were biking down their street to see some of our other less actives. Elder Hoopes was biking ahead of me, I noticed both of their cars were home and his wife working in the <br />garage again. We turned around and visited with her, her husband and their 8 year old daughter. We asked if there would be a good time to come back and share a message with their family and his wife said one of the greatest things in the world, "we can listen to one right now, I think." We sat down and shared a powerful message on the atonement of Jesus Christ and what it means that He lives today (check out <a href="http://helives.mormon.org/">helives.mormon.org</a>). We taught her about the Book of Mormon and its divine witness of Jesus Christ. She had so many questions, she was fascinated by the Book of Mormon. When we gave her one she thanked us and told us that she would read the whole thing. Those were sweet words to our ears. She even asked where our church was. After we said the closing prayer I could see a few tears in her husband's eyes. The spirit was really strong the rest of that night. There is nothing better then following the spirit and being guided to the right place at the right time. Being a missionary is awesome.<br /><br />Thank you for all your emails! I love you all! Have a great spiritually uplifting week!<br /><br />Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />

(Week 81)Well I'm here. I arrived in Duncan and I'm now with Elder Hoopes who is from Wyoming. I am serving in Duncan North that is divided on Elder Street with two other Elders serving in the south. We have a small district of four Elders. It's different.<br />
<br />
So I was super confused when I got here because I was originally suppose to serve in Duncan North but I was told I was changed to Duncan South, because Elder H~ and Q~ had already been companions. So I became companions with Elder Hoopes and was told that we were in the south, but because Duncan central got removed they switch the north area with the south. I am now in the area I was originally intended to serve in, Duncan North. So if that made no sense to you that's fine because it's nearly impossible to explain the full story. I guess it really just comes down to the Lord needs me in the Duncan north area.<br />
<br />
My last full day in Ponca City was wonderful. I got a ton of pictures with the families I served with and the individuals I taught. Okay so story time, me and Elder Matthews were making our last visit of the night with the Snelding family and we were running late into the night, about 9:30. As we were leaving to make a 10 minute bike ride home I felt like we should swing over to Miranda and Matt to say goodbye. It was super late but I kept thinking about them. So me and Elder Matthews swung by and it turned out Matt's back pain was so bad he couldn't move and he wanted a blessing. It was his first time getting a blessing and he needed one bad. Elder Matthews anointed and I sealed it with a priesthood blessing. The spirit was so strong and my heart was filled with gratitude for the promptings of the holy ghost. If we listen we will be guided to where we need to be at the time we are<br />
needed. Shout out to Miranda I know you are reading this, You are awesome!<br />
<br />
I loved President Eyring's general conference talk on being Spiritually prepared (priesthood session). It taught so many wonderful points on how to minister as Christ would. Praying for the spirit and listening are key. God is always trying to communicate with us we just have to listen.<br />
<br />
Duncan's going to require some hard work but it is going to be so much fun. Me and elder Hoopes are going to "Dunk Duncan". Okay I had to I couldn't resist. We have an awesome ward mission leader and a lot of prospective/RM elder and sister missionaries. I am excited to serve here.<br />
<br />
I love you all! I hope you had a wonderful Easter Conference as I did. :)<br />
<br />
Sincerely, Elder Watkins<br />
